Richard 'Dick' Greig, active Miltonian

Richard D. “Dick” Greig, 75,  of Milton, passed away peacefully at home Monday, Jan. 27, 2014.

Dick was born in Washington, D.C., son of the late Cifford and Doris (Forte) Greig.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Towson State College, his master’s degree from University of Maryland, and his doctorate degree from George Washington University. He had a distinguished career in education in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania school districts. He worked as a teacher, vice principal, principal and superintendent, retiring from his career in 1998.

Dick was involved with the local Democratic Party, Midway Fitness Center, Milton Garden Club, Milton Historical Society and Friends of the Milton Public Library. He was also involved with politics in the Town of Milton and has served on its finance, planning and zoning, and historic preservation commissions. Prior to his illness, Dick loved yard work and gardening.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Mirium Greig Roberts.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Kathryn (Elliott) Greig; three sons, Phillip, Bruce and Matt Greig; two stepchildren, Scott Todd and Mary Tyler; a stepgranddaughter, April Tyler; one brother, Tom Greig and wife Beverly; and a nephew, Sean Greig.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, with visitation after noon.
