Maryland-based Rise Up Coffee Roasters began in 2005 as a drive-thru trailer in a parking lot in St. Michaels, Md. Now, 20 years later, the coffee maker is bringing the drive-thru experience to Rehoboth Beach.

Under the name Rise Up Coastal, the new drive-through coffee shop is located in Sandpiper Plaza on the northbound side Route 1 outside of Rehoboth. It will be in the small building in the parking lot abutting the Rosenfeld’s Jewish Delicatessen and Beef Jerky Outlet building. The purpose-built structure was originally Mudslingers Drive-Thru Coffee.

“This one takes us back to our roots,” announced the company in June on its Facebook page. “Rise Up started in a parking lot coffee shack, and this new spot feels like a full-circle moment. It’s the perfect satellite to our Rehoboth Avenue mothership, now rolling into its sixth summer at the Delaware beaches.”

More recently, signage with Rise’s logo was installed on the Route 1 side of the building.

Rise Up opened its downtown Rehoboth location near the circle in May 2019. It was the company’s first in Delaware. The highway location will be the second. The opening date for the new location is unknown, but a sign on the window says, “Opening soon.”
