Robert Lee Oney, Army paratrooper

Robert Lee Oney (Bert or Pokey as he was so lovingly called), transitioned from this life Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020. He was born Feb. 24, 1957, in Laurel, where he lived most of his life until he moved to Seaford for the past several years.
 
He received his education from the Laurel School District and he was a member of the class of 1975. After high school, Robert served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper of which he received an honorable discharge upon his exit. He was employed at C.C. Oliphant in Laurel. There he worked as a roofing technician for several years. Most recently he worked as a laborer at Pictsweet in Bridgeville. He enjoyed reading novel books and routing for the Steelers, his favorite football team.
 
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Mae Oney; a brother, Robert Earl Oney; his biological father, John A. Bolden; and his wife Emma Trueblood-Oney.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Tanya Eyvette Deshields of Delmar; father Earl F. Oney Sr. of Laurel; five sisters, Evon Davis of Federalsburg, Md., Melissa Oney of Millsboro, Victoria Snell (Joe) of Laurel, Deborah Treherne (Leon) of Georgetown, Veronica Cornish (Donald) of Seaford; and one brother, Earl Oney Jr. (Eureka) of Newark; two grandchildren, Daronte’ and Te’rez; and one great-grandson Gavin; a special friend, Donna Matthews of Seaford; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A public viewing was held Dec. 26, at McPherson Funeral Service Inc., Laurel.
