Robert McClain Smith, Delmarva Power retiree

Robert McClain Smith passed away peacefully in his home Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, with his family by his side, from complications of heart disease.  Bob was born in West Grove, Pa., Oct. 9, 1943, and spent the majority of his life in Wilmington and West Grove.  He graduated from Avon Grove High School in 1961.

Bob married his wife Nancy in 1969, and the two were happily married for 49 years.  He retired from Delmarva Power after 31 years of service.  The couple relocated to Ocean View in 2009, and most recently, Bob worked at Bayside Golf Course.

Bob was an avid sports fan, playing, coaching, and most of all, watching all of his grandchildren’s sporting events.  If he wasn’t watching sports, you could find Bob on a golf course.

Bob was most proud of his children - Lisa Cella and husband Ralph, Jodi Dean and husband TC, and Duncan Smith and his wife Cindy – and their accomplishments.  His children added joy to his life by giving him seven grandchildren: Greg and Eric Cella, Jenna Dean, and McClain, Delaney, Merrill, and Jopie Smith.

Per his request, Bob will be cremated and a private ceremony will be held at a later date.  Family has requested donations be sent in his honor to either the River Soccer Club, PO Box 1366, Ocean View, DE 19970, or Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care, 220 Continental Drive, Suite 407, Newark, DE 19713.
