Ronald Clark Horsey, used farming skills

January 3, 2019

Ronald Clark Horsey, 66, of Seaford, passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, surrounded by family. He showed amazing courage and fortitude in battling Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) before going home to be with the Lord. Born March 10, 1952, in Laurel, he was the son of the late Catherine “Katie” Horsey and Ronald Clark.

Ronald attended Paul Laurence Dunbar School and worked for Valliant Fertilizer for many years in the 1970s. Known as “Cuban,” he also used his extensive farming skills working side by side with his older brother, Roger “Bucky” Horsey, on various farms and with produce distributors at the Laurel Auction Block. Known for his candor and dry humor, Ronald enjoyed spending time with his best friends Bobby Hill, Randy Stewart and Shawn “Indian” Hill, playing a rousing game of pool or a rambunctious game of cards. While he enjoyed his time with his friends, his favorite pastime was sitting on his front porch in solitude, loudly offering his unsolicited and uncensored opinions to his neighbors. Everyone who knew him knew he said whatever was on his mind – refusing to bite his tongue in any manner.

Throughout his illness Ronald never lost his zest for life, continuing to keep his family and friends laughing through his antidotes and unfiltered observations of the world around him to the very end. In an effort to continue giving, in his final days he chose to participate in the Anatomy Gift Registry as a full body donor.

Ronald was a loving son, father, brother, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed. He is survived by his last remaining sibling, Katie Mae Wilson (Evans) and her two sons, Kevin and Eric Wilson of Springfield, Mass.; his only son Ronald Clark Deshields of Georgetown; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William “Dookie” Horsey in 1983, Leroy “Ballie” Horsey (Lillie) also in 1983, Paul “June” Horsey (Irene) in 1993, John Henry “Klondike” Horsey in 2001, Roger Lee “Bucky” Horsey in 2010, and Lonnie Horsey (Ruth) in 2013; and his sisters, Elizabeth Horsey in 1949, Sadie Horsey (Elwood Bivens) in 1978, Eleanor “Booty” Hill (William) in 1999, and Lou Jane West (Granville “Bus”) in 2002.

A Celebration of His Life & Time of Fellowship will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, from 1 to 3 p.m., at The United Deliverance Bible Center, 532 W. 7th St., Laurel, DE  19956.
