Rotary donates heaters for West Rehoboth community

December 1, 2023

The Rehoboth Beach Sunrise Rotary Club recently made a significant contribution to the West Rehoboth community, delivering eight top-rated electric ceramic space heaters to West Side New Beginnings Community Center.

This initiative, which will provide residents with low-cost and comfortable heat with no carbon emissions, is part of Rotary’s commitment to protect the environment.

Kerosene heaters, traditionally relied upon for supplemental heating, have been flagged by fire safety experts for their considerable fire and carbon monoxide hazards. In contrast, the donated ceramic heaters offer a safer, emission-free, and low-cost heating solution, eliminating the need for refueling.

Rotarians John Sykes and Mark Schaeffer, who is also a member of the West Rehoboth Land Trust, collaborated with Diaz Bonville, director of West Side New Beginnings, to set up and test the heaters, ensuring they meet the community members' needs effectively and safely. This effort marks another step in the Rotary Club's ongoing dedication to enhancing the wellbeing and safety of the residents of West Rehoboth.
