December 19, 2024

The Delmarva Christian boys’ basketball team moved to 5-2 on the season with a 42-33 victory over First State Military Academy Dec. 18 at home.

Senior Malachi Light and freshman Darrius Liles led the Royals with 15 points each. DJ Liles added 12.

“I got in some foul trouble in the third period and had to sit out for a while,” said Light. “When I got back in, I knew I couldn’t foul so I tried to do what I could do to help the team out as much as I could, like playing defense. To keep it going, we have to run our plays better and communicate better and listen to our coaches. We have to keep playing as a team.”

“It’s just about bringing energy,” said Darrius Liles. “We keep a good mindset. The whole team has to keep the energy up. We have to be competitive all the way through the game. We all respect each other, and everyone listens to what each of the team has to say.”

The Royals took a six-point lead into the halftime break 20-14 and won the second half 22-19 to secure the nine-point victory.

Wayne Watson led the Bulldogs with 15 points.

The Royals junior varsity defeated the JV Bulldogs 41-35 to move to 3-1 on the season.
