September 30, 2024

Delmarva Christian field hockey moved to 2-6 on the season with a 5-0 loss to Wilmington Christian Sept. 28 at the Royals’ Georgetown campus. The Warriors are 4-3.

Wilmington Christian scored after time ran out in the first quarter off a corner shot by Gabriella Bourantas. Warriors sophomore Adriana Givler scored three straight goals, including one in the second quarter and two in the third.

Elizabeth Haney scored in the fourth to finish the visitors’ scoring. Haney was credited with two assists, while Bourantas had one helper.

The Warriors took 19 shots on goal, with Royals keeper Bella Marinelli stopping 14 of them.

“The only thing I can say is once these girls start believing in themselves, our opponents better watch out,” said Royals head coach Laura Balback. “We will continue to hammer the basics at practice and help build their confidence.”

The Royals will be back in action Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Holly Grove Christian School (2-1).
