RSCT's 'Alice in Wonderland' on stage Aug. 6

Rotates with three other children's favorites through Aug. 26
August 3, 2014

The fanciful dream of a young girl leads her to a marvelous land with a talking cat, a clumsy knight and a most unusual croquet game. The Rehoboth Summer Children’s Theatre presents "Alice in Wonderland," which brings to the stage characters from both of Lewis Carroll’s classic tales: "Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking-Glass."

The play begins as Alice falls asleep while reading a book of stories, and dreams of a crazy, mixed-up land. She meets the stylishly dressed White Rabbit, who is late for the Queen of Hearts' croquet game. She tries to follow him, but soon finds herself lost in Wonderland. Seeking directions to the game, she meets the Cheshire Cat, who is helpful, and the Mad Hatter, who is too distracted by his tea party to be of any assistance.

She continues on and encounters the White Knight from the chessboard, Humpty Dumpty on his wall and a very goofy Jack of Hearts. Finally she arrives at the croquet game and is surprised to learn that it is played with flamingos and hedgehogs instead of mallets and balls. In the midst of the wacky croquet game, Alice finally wakes up and closes her book, remembering with fondness her time in Wonderland.

This fun-filled, one-hour version of Alice in Wonderland is performed by two actors who bring the entire story to life. Rachel Hendrickson plays Alice and Josh Keiter plays everyone else. This production rotates on the RSCT schedule throughout the summer along with three other plays: "Peter Pan," "Aladdin," and "Little Goldy and the Three Riding Bears."

The performances of RSCT take place in two locations. Audiences in downtown Rehoboth can enjoy Sunday evening shows at the Clear Space Theatre. On Tuesday evenings and Wednesday and Thursday mornings, plays are performed at Epworth United Methodist Church just off Route 1 near the Tanger Seaside Outlets.

The complete schedule can be found at www.rehobothchildrenstheatre.org. Tickets to all shows are $10. They can be purchased by phone at 302-227-6766 or through the website. The Clear Space Theatre is at 20 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach. Epworth UMC is at 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth, and features plenty of free parking.
