Russ Huxtable is an excellent public servant

April 8, 2022

Russ Huxtable is running in the September primary to be the Democratic candidate for State Senate District 6 (Lewes, Rehoboth, Milton). I’ve known Russ for at least 15 years, from when I was involved with Sussex County Habitat for Humanity. He was already a proven leader with a leading nonprofit affordable housing agency in southern Delaware. In the intervening years, he has developed a national reputation, working as speaker, advisor and advocate with other nonprofits, states and funders.

Russ is a native Delawarean who appreciates all those who choose to come to live here. From high school and college experience volunteering to build houses for low-income residents in rural Kentucky, he developed a deep commitment to that mission. Returning to his home state, he devoted his professional career to the nonprofit housing sector while engaging in soccer coaching, cooking meals for shelter residents and other community service.

Russ has shown that he knows how to get things done. He has built relationships with state and local leaders that have enabled his success in providing affordable housing for those we all rely on – teachers, educators, restaurant workers and tradespeople – here in southern Delaware. The father of school-aged children, he understands and will work to deliver on the needs of our local public schools.

He has lived most of his adult life in the Senate Sixth District area, so he’s seen the growth and all the good things that growth has brought us while recognizing aspects of that growth need fixing. He really gets that the need for economic growth in our community must be coupled with attention to the needs of all those who can’t afford the high cost of housing in our coastal communities, while equally passionate about environmental protection for our waterways, open spaces and forests.

If you're not a registered Democrat, you'll be missing the opportunity to vote for this excellent public servant. Let's make it happen!
