August 29, 2017

The Rylie's Dog Days of Summer 5K race, walk and Kiddie K will return at 8 a.m., Monday, Sept. 4, at the American Legion in Lewes. The event benefits the Rylie's Smile Foundation, which provides comfort to pediatric patients in hospitals.

All entrants will receive a T-shirt and post-race refreshments provided by American Legion Post 17, as well as beer for those 21 and older. Preregistration is $25. Participants can also register at 7 a.m. the day of the event for $30, with checks payable to Rylie's Smile Foundation.

Rylie's Smile is a nonprofit foundation named after 11-year-old Rehoboth Beach resident Rylie Maedler, who was diagnosed with a bone tumor in 2013 which caused her to spend considerable time in the hospital. Through music, Rylie was able to manage her long hospital stays. The foundation was created to provide iPods to other children dealing with lengthy hospital stays.
