Sacred Sounds meditation slated in Rehoboth Jan. 30

January 19, 2019

Julie Fisher of Gifted Alchemy will lead Sacred Sounds, a sound meditation, at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 30, at SoulFire Collective on the second floor of 176 Rehoboth Ave. in Rehoboth Beach. The cost is $25 payable at the door or through the class registration portal on soulfirecollective.com.

Meditation is a practice of centering, relaxing and listening that yields clarity, concentration and feelings of well-being. Meditation can be practiced through movement, sitting still, or listening to sound. A sound meditation is effortless because as participants listen to the sounds, they experience relaxation. The sounds are typically soft and beautiful, created using crystal singing bowls, chimes, gong and voice. Participants are encouraged to bring cushions, pillows and blankets to make themselves comfortable as they meditate in a reclined position.

A frequent particpant of Sacred Sounds, Keith Fitzgerald, says, “The space at SoulFire Collective is excellent for what Julie does acoustically. Every sound she creates, including her voice, is disembodied and fills the space equally. It does not seem to be coming from where she is sitting or walking. It creates for me the illusion that everything is actually emanating from inside my head. It helps me empty my mind, just be, and eliminate all the static and chatter of the day and my life. I feel very rested afterward.”

SoulFire Collective owners Brooke and Kay Wyman look forward to hosting Fisher and Sacred Sounds every month. The Wymans believe in empowering individuals to live their best lives filled with tons of gratitude and a bit of courage. They created SoulFire Collective to give people a space to connect, nourish and be themselves. They offer classes in power flow yoga and yin yoga, a variety of workshops and life coaching, and also provide an outlet for local artisans.

Fisher has been studying and practicing healing arts since 1998. She became interested in sound healing in 2003 after experiencing its profound effects. She began developing her method for leading sound meditations while living in Hawaii, and has since led them in Tennessee, North Carolina, Maryland and Delaware. Sound meditations are a service she provides for people seeking peace, inner calm, enhanced sleep, relaxation, restoration and reprieve from stressful, busy modern life.
