Samuel M. Mattia, accomplished ironworker

Samuel M. Mattia, 72, of Lewes, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022. Sam was an accomplished master of his trade as an ironworker and member of Local 451. He went on to work in management for EJ Deseta & Son, as project manager and head of the specialty metals division. Sam was known for his loyalty and dedication to his trade, his coworkers, and his union brothers.

Sam was devoted to his family and friends. He enjoyed making memories with them. The family loved to entertain, so the house was often filled with laughter, good conversation, and great food shared with cherished friends and loved ones. Sam also enjoyed boating, spending time at the beach and betting on sports. He will be deeply missed.

Sam is survived by his devoted wife, Micheline Nardo Mattia; son, Victor Mattia (Jennifer); daughters: Dana Adlesic (Rudy), Julie Carden͂a (Luis) and Catherine Truitt (Jacob); grandchildren: Emma, Leonardo, Ethan, Antonio, Madden, Mason, Victoria, Sofia and William; brother, Michael Mattia; brothers-in-law, Christopher Nardo (Donna) and Francis Nardo (Jennifer); and a host of nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Lena Mattia; and sisters Rose Persoleo, Rita Papili and Tina Begatto.

A visitation will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 21, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 809 S. Broom St., Wilmington, followed by a Memorial Mass at 3:30 PM. Burial will be private.
