Save Our Lakes Alliance3 announces new board member

The Save Our Lakes Alliance3 board has unanimously elected Mike Boyd to serve as a director.

When SOLA3 was organized in 2004, Boyd served as its first vice president and was very involved in drafting its bylaws and other organizational documents, as well as working on solutions to improve the Rehoboth lakes. In 2017, he resigned from that position because of his responsibilities at the Environmental Protection Agency in the Office of Air Radiation in Washington, D.C. After 34 years of distinguished service, he retired from that position in 2022.

Boyd currently serves on the boards of his professional organization, the Health Physics Society, and the U.S. National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements. In 2020, he received the HPS Distinguished Public Service Award. He has a bachelor of science degree in biology and a master of science degree in public health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Sallie Forman, SOLA3 founder and president, said, “It’s easy to recall the significant role Mike played in our early years. He is a very quick study, so he understands the many issues we faced as a new organization, and that we face now, in trying to improve the environment of our Rehoboth lakes. His scientific background and knowledge are invaluable to us in analyzing and understanding the data relative to the lakes.”

Boyd said, “I am happy to be spending more time at my cottage on Lake Comegys in Dewey Beach and look forward to again working with SOLA3 to promote the health of the lakes.”

Continuing on the board are Forman as president; Tom Childers, vice president; Rick Hardy, treasurer; Diane Hanson, secretary; and Susan Gay and Jan Konesey, directors.

Founded in 2004, SOLA3 is the only nonprofit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to restoring, protecting and maintaining the three freshwater lakes located in the Rehoboth Beach area – Silver Lake, Lake Comegys and Lake Gerar.  For more information, go to SOLA3.org.
