It’s been argued, by thoughtful people, that there’s a great calamity going on and nobody is paying attention.
Thank you all for paying attention, for paying attention to that which is defining the contours of the 21st century more than anything else, to that which is agreed upon by over 2,000 of the world’s leading climatologists, to that which is changing our landscape and causing extreme weather resulting in loss of life and billions of property damage (ask those in Asheville and surrounding areas where water and sewer, built well underground to withstand 1,000-year floods, were totally destroyed. Eight months later, after lots of hard work and millions invested, this appreciable area is only 50% recovered). The ultimate challenge, the unmistakable truth, one heaped with evidence, is climate change.
Renewable energy, wind energy is an answer – clean and thoroughly tested and plenty available and, now, is cheaper than any of the costly fossil fuels whose pollution causes the absolutely devastating effects of climate change.
Low-lying Delaware is especially vulnerable, and all of us, all Delaware citizens and those beyond, must respond and embrace an answer, one that helps keep us from the suffering, from all the destruction climate change creates. If we do not pay attention to this ultimate challenge, all others become insignificant.
Senate Bill 159, one which embraces what already has been approved for what’s already there and ultimately furthers low-cost and non-polluting renewable energy, helps us, helps all of us, in Sussex County and beyond. Let’s do all we can to support it. Thank you.
