During the summer of 2011, the Boy Scouts of Troop One delivered over 1,440 telephone directories for the Rehoboth Beach Lions Club.
An average of six boys worked nine hours each for a month delivering the directories. Two Cub Scouts from Pack One also helped with deliveries.
The boys learned teamwork and got to meet people who live in Rehoboth Beach.
One gentleman saw a Scout coming and said, “I’m not buying any subscriptions,” but the boys told him it was the Lions Club phone book and he responded that he was glad to see that scouting is still strong in the area.
The Rehoboth Beach Lions Club recently honored Troop One representatives with dinner and the presentation of a $500 check.
Shown (l-r) are Club President and Past District Governor Jack Brinckmeyer, who presents the check to committee chairperson Jim Ferl, assistant Senior Patrol Leader Toby Ferl, Quartermaster Jesse Ferl and committee member Bill Robertson.
