Sea Colony to host event benefiting Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation
Sea Colony and the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation are partnering to raise funds and awareness for multiple myeloma, a rare form of blood cancer. Sea Colony will host The Journey from Friday to Sunday, April 28 to 30, a fundraising weekend inspired by Sea Colony owner Eric Gelber and his motivating story of running 200 miles around Central Park in New York City to raise awareness and funds for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
“Since 2006, I have been on a journey to make a difference for cancer patients, and raise awareness and money for research for the MMRF. For me, it’s not about an end, it’s about the journey and to make the best of every day. I feel, together, if we all do our small part, we can accelerate a cure,” Gelber said.
The family-friendly weekend will kick off Friday, April 28, with a free viewing of the documentary “200 Miles,” which chronicles Eric’s triumphant third and final attempt to run a record 200 miles around Central Park. A round robin tennis tournament and pickleball tournament will be held Saturday, April 29, followed by a 5K run and 1-mile fun walk Sunday, April 30. All events will be held at the Sea Colony Tennis Center. Net proceeds from the weekend's events will be donated to the MMRF, the largest nonprofit in the world solely focused on accelerating a cure for every multiple myeloma patient.
“We are very excited to partner with Eric and the MMRF,” said Jen Neal, Sea Colony community events, activities and outreach manager. “When we heard that one of our owners had done something so incredible, we knew we had to bring that passion and story back to Sea Colony. Eric is an inspiration to us all, and we couldn’t be prouder to have him as part of our community.”

“Over the last 17 years, Eric has distinguished himself as one of our most passionate advocates, raising more than $2.1 million to advance the MMRF’s mission of accelerating a cure for each and every multiple myeloma patient,” said Mindy Flinn, MMRF vice president of development. “Through The Journey, Eric continues to inspire our community, and fuel countless breakthroughs in myeloma research and treatment. We are so grateful for his steadfast partnership and shared dedication, and we look forward to another exhilarating event in partnership with Eric and our friends at Sea Colony.”
