Sea Witch Festival weathers the storm

Costume parade hopefuls can submit photos for judging
October 31, 2011

Many Sea Witch events were canceled or rescheduled to Oct. 30 following a day of rain and wind the day before. Under Sunday's bright autumn sky, thousands crowded the streets of the Nation's Summer Capital to participate in events.

For the first time in 22 years, Saturday's Sea Witch Festival Costume Parade was cancelled. Given the size of the parade and the required 100-plus volunteer base needed to coordinate and produce the effort, the full parade could not be moved to Sunday. However, in the future, with a change in Sunday’s schedule, moving the dog parade to later in the afternoon would allow costumed walkers to parade down the Boardwalk on Sunday. Floats would be judged by picture. In the event of a two-day weather safety issue, all judging could again be accomplished through picture entry

Those with floats and costumes who planned to participate this year and who would like to be judged, can do so by emailing a picture to carol@beach-fun.com. With permission, selected pictures will be posted online before and after judging. Winners will be recognized and awarded their trophy.

Pictures should be submitted no later than Thursday, Nov. 10, and winners will be announced Tuesday, Nov. 15.
