Seahawks struck down by Blue Raiders 43-23

Sussex Academy girls basketball trying to find offensive groove
January 21, 2026

Basketball is a game of runs and the Sussex Academy girls basketball team is hoping to start another positive one after losing to Woodbridge 43-23 Jan. 20.

It is the girls second loss in a row and it comes after they rattled off two straight victories against Henlopen South foes. Despite the score, the game never lacked intensity and played true to the division archetype of non-stop hustle.

The Blue Raiders collected 26 steals, led by senior Jaida Plummer and junior Ajaia Cannon’s seven. Junior Au’Mya Fletcher finished second with six swipes and led all scorers with 22 points. Plummmer and Fletcher led the team with four assists each. Sophomore Danielle Fletcher grabbed a dozen boards to lead the team.

Sussex Academy honored their lone senior, Eva Boos, in their Jan. 22 game against rival Indian River. The girls played after the Cape Gazette deadline.

They face a quick turnaround and will welcome Seaford at 4 p.m., Friday, Jan. 23.

Aaron Mushrush joined the sports team in Summer 2023 to help cover the emerging youth athletics scene in the Cape Region.
