Seaside Krav Maga keeps people safe in Sussex County

August 10, 2023

Seaside Dojo, located on Nassau Commons Boulevard near Lewes, has been serving the Sussex County area for more than 14 years teaching self-defense skills.

The team is excited to announce it has added another self-defense program to the school, called Krav Maga.

Krav Maga was originated in Israel by a man named Imi Lichtenfeld. He was tasked with training people with no hand-to-hand combat experience to become soldiers capable of defending the newly formed nation of Israel. Lichtenfeld needed to train his men as quickly as possible using simple, effective moves. Today, Krav Maga remains the primary method taught to the Israeli Defense Forces as part of its military training program.

Unlike traditional martial arts training, Krav Maga does not rely on elaborate performances, demonstrations or ceremonies. Its movements don’t rely on athleticism, or require years of technical practice or skilled training partners to be effective.

Krav Maga classes teach people ways to avoid and de-escalate dangerous situations, and how to fight for survival when necessary. Students learn there are no rules in an assault and to never give up.

Seaside Dojo, now also know as Seaside Krav Maga, teaches skills needed by both men and women to help deal with violent encounters. The core principles are easy to learn, regardless of age, body type or conditioning.

Seaside Krav Maga is an affiliate of Israeli Krav Maga and offers weekly group classes, private lessons and women-only clinics by appointment.

Seaside Krav Maga provides “how to get home safely tips” between 4 and 5 p.m., every Tuesday on CoastTV WRDE.
