Sen. Carper visits site and gets COVID-19 test

DEMA, National Guard continue to offer mobile testing around the state

Saying it’s important to lead by example, U.S. Sen. Tom Carper took a saliva COVID-19 test during an Aug. 27 visit to a mobile testing site at Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown. “It’s important for the people of Delaware to not just see us getting tested, but wearing face masks, washing our hands, social distancing and using sanitizer,” he said.

Carper had praise for Delaware Army National Guard members, who along with Delaware Emergency Management Agency staff, have coordinated numerous testing sites throughout the state. He said the Guard has always stepped up in time of emergency and is here to help the state during the pandemic. Carney said when he was governor, the Guard played a key role during several devastating weather events. “I had some bad luck with these events but had really good luck that the National Guard was always there on the spot,” he said.
