Sheila Cisco to chair 2019 Southern Delaware Heart Walk

June 20, 2019

Sheila Cisco, County Bank human resources director, will serve as chair of the 2019 Southern Delaware Heart Walk events. They  will be held Sunday, Sept. 22, at the Bandstand in Rehoboth Beach, and Sunday, Oct.  5, at Delaware Technical Community College in Dover.

The Heart Walk supports the American Heart Association, whose mission is to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.

Cisco has been with County Bank for more than six years. Before, she held human resources positions at Harbor Healthcare and Bayhealth. She had also served 22 years in human resources and as physician recruiter at Laurel Health System in northern Pennsylvania.

The Southern Delaware Heart Walk is an opportunity for participants to honor those who suffer from heart disease and to raise funds for advancement of research and treatment.

Heart disease is the nation's No. 1 killer, claiming nearly a million American lives a year, more than all forms of cancer combined. Stroke is the No. 5 killer and a leading cause of long-term disability. However, around 80 percent of cardiac events can be avoided with education and prevention measures.

Organizers of the Heart Walk, under the American Heart Association’s umbrella program Healthy for Good, encourage Americans to make healthy choices including adding physical activities like walking to their daily routine.

“We are honored to have Sheila Cisco’s leadership as chair of the 2019 Southern Delaware Heart Walk,” said David Morris, executive director, American Heart Association in Delaware. “Sheila is a highly respected, proven leader who brings to this role a passion for fighting heart disease and stroke, and for serving our community.”

“I am privileged to lead the Southern Delaware Heart Walk events this year,” said Cisco. “In addition to raising awareness and vital funds for heart disease and stroke research and education, the Heart Walk is a fun family event and engages companies to promote healthy lifestyles for adults and children.”

Last year’s Southern Delaware Heart Walk events raised approximately $100,000.

Sponsors this year include Beebe Healthcare, Bayhealth, NRG Energy, County Bank, Griswold Home Care, Post Acute Medical, the Carl M. Freeman Foundation and Fulton Bank.
