Developer Jill Cicierski of Milton has plans to build a 75,000-square-foot retail/office complex on an 11-acre parcel on Route 9 at Fisher Road, between Lewes and Harbeson. The site is on the southwest corner of the intersection, across from the existing Dollar General.

Landowner Dry Acres LLC has filed an application to rezone the parcel from AR-1, agricultural-residential, to C-2 medium commercial. The plan received a recommendation for approval May 28 from Sussex County Planning and Zoning.

During a May 14 teleconference Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, Mark Davidson of Pennoni Associates said Plaza Nine plans include a shopping plaza surrounding a commercial center with shops and stores to provide services to the surrounding community. Proposed plans also include a small grocery store.

Davidson said the developer had already dedicated right-of-way for an intersection improvement project at Fisher Road and Route 9. He said the developer would also provide access to the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail along the southern border of the property.

The trail currently ends at the Cool Spring Road and Route 9 intersection. Davidson said trail construction should reach the parcel by fall 2020.

Proposed is a full-access entrance along Fisher Road and a limited-access entrance along Route 9.

Following the hearing, the commission voted to defer a vote for further consideration.

Sussex County Council has scheduled a teleconference public hearing on the project at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 9.
