Small Jewels exhibit to open Nov. 25 at Peninsula Gallery
The Peninsula Gallery’s 20th annual Small Jewels show, featuring small works priced for the gift-giving season, will begin Saturday, Nov. 25, with an opening reception from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Some of the artists in the show will be in attendance, allowing guests the opportunity to learn about the pieces directly from their creators.
Clients are invited to shop for the holiday season and fall in love with artworks that all cost $500 or less. Unlike other exhibitions, clients can take away the piece they buy, ensuring the work can be given as a gift anytime throughout its run.
This year, the artists featured in Small Jewels have been juried by Peninsula’s curatorial team, resulting in a coherent collection of 100 original works from 20 artists. The lineup includes local and regional participants, and a mixture of resident and guest artists. The show features five pieces each from Al Barker, Angi Beauheim, Kristin Blanck, Anne Buck, Sara Cameli, Barbara Efchak, Carol Fastuca, Christine Heyse, Doris Ingram, Nancy McIntyre, Joe Milligan, Rinal Parikh, Damon Pla, J. Stacy Rogers, Steve Rogers, John Schisler, Nick Serratore, Amy Shawley Paquette, Joe Terrone and Nancy Richards West.
The 2023 exhibition comprises works done in the traditional mediums of oil, acrylic, pastel and watercolor, as well as sumi-e ink wash. The works encompass a wide variety of subject matter from animals and landscapes to still lifes and contemporary abstracts.
Tony Boyd-Heron, gallery co-owner, said, “Each year, it’s very exciting to get the show up on the walls. It’s always sort of a shock walking into a room lined with so many paintings.”
Works from the show can be previewed at peninsula-gallery.com and are available for presale.
The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, in the Village Shoppes at the Beacon Inn, 520 East Savannah Road, Lewes.
