A Smyrna man faces charges after police said he led them on a high-speed chase Oct. 17 before crashing into The Circle in Georgetown.
Officers first saw a vehicle speeding about 10:15 p.m., on Old Laurel Road, and while pursuing the car, police said, it failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into a ramp on the west side of Georgetown Elementary School. Police said the driver reversed and fled the scene at unsafe speeds, and committed multiple traffic violations while heading toward The Circle.
The car failed to navigate The Circle and crashed through it, causing damage to the interior. Police arrested Dwayne Boney, 28, who was taken to an area hospital where he was treated and released. Police charged Boney with two counts of criminal mischief $5,000 or more, disregarding a police officer’s signal, leaving the scene of a property collision, driving under the influence, and several traffic violations. He was released on his own recognizance after appearing before a magistrate.
Anybody with information related to the crash is asked to contact the Georgetown Police Department at 302-856-6613.
