Southern Delaware Roller Derby to travel to Ohio for River Valley Riot

September fundraisers on tap to cover travel costs
August 31, 2018

After nearly a decade of honing their skills with local bouts, Southern Delaware Roller Derby will make its first tournament appearance in November, and the team is hosting a number of fundraising events in September to help cover costs.

Founded 2011, SoDel is an all-gender, all-inclusive league based at Dover Skating Center in Dover, and includes skaters, officials and volunteers – all of whom have been invited to attend and participate in the tournament.

The league will be participating in the River Valley Riot women’s flat-track association tournament Nov. 17 and 18, in St. Clairsville, Ohio. Approximately 30 people are expected to make the trip and roughly $4,000 is needed to cover travel, lodging and registration.

Fundraising events begin Saturday, Sept. 1, at Coastal Car Wash in Dover, 1117 S. Dupont Hwy. The fundraising code is 2011. The next fundraiser is a tie-dye event at Arena’s in Milford, 200 NE Front St., from 7 p.m. to close, Friday, Sept. 7. There is a paint night at the Holiday Inn Express in Harrington, 17271 S. Dupont Hwy., scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23. The last fundraiser is at Mispillion Brewery in Milford, 255 Mullett Run St., Friday, Sept. 28, from 7 p.m. to close. There is also an online Scentsy party scheduled from Monday, Sept. 3, through Monday, Sept. 17.
