Sparkle Team shines homes for Sussex Habitat homeowners

Sussex County Habitat for Humanity is celebrating 25 years of service building homes, communities and hope. Over the years, many volunteers and community partners helped build 106 homes, housing 424 neighbors in need. SCHFH would like to recognize the Sparkle Team, a group of special individuals who regularly do a shining job.
After each Habitat home dedication and before settlement, this group of sparkling personalities makes sure the house is thoroughly cleaned for the new homeowners. As part of its community outreach, the Salvation Army’s Developmental Disabilities Program formed the Sparkle Team four years ago under the direction of Becky Madden. Madden said the team also cleans a local church and picks up food donations as part of their service. “We help the team focus on what they can do, not on what they can’t,” said Madden.
The Salvation Army's Developmental Disabilities Program has supported people with disabilities since 1980. Today, DDP has helped hundreds in eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware find meaningful work and/or participate in community life. Highly trained and experienced staff members support people with a variety of needs in diverse, community-based settings.
The goal is to enable people with disabilities to live as citizens in their local communities in an atmosphere of dignity and respect. DDP is committed to serving communities by recognizing the gifts people bring to their community and supporting their efforts to achieve their own fullest potential.
