St. George’s Chapel celebrates 300 years

March 2, 2019

St. George’s Chapel celebrated its 300th anniversary Feb. 24 with a special service titled Heritage Sunday. Many members of the congregation attended the event in period clothing. The service was the traditional Heritage Sunday, with reading of the Holy Communion service from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. A leather-bound copy of the book, printed in 1718, may be found at the chapel.

Sen. Ernie Lopez, R-Lewes, presented the Senate and House proclamations to the vestry during the service. The church was also celebrating the 100th birthday of their oldest parishioner, Amie Sloan. The entire congregation sang “Happy Birthday” to her during the service.
