St. Jude the Apostle celebrates Perpetual Adoration
Adoration of Jesus Christ exposed in the Blessed Sacrament has been a Christian practice since ancient times and has in recent times seen a significant resurgence in the Catholic Church.
Catholics hold that Jesus Christ becomes truly present - in his humanity and divinity - in the Liturgy of the Eucharist, and that he remains fully present in the consecrated bread and wine even after the Eucharistic celebration. Various authentic sources speak about the first generation of Christians taking a portion of the Body of Christ from the Eucharistic gathering to those unable to attend so that they, too, might partake.
St. Jude's Parish has for more than 10 years had a program of Eucharistic exposition and adoration which was expanded In March 2012 to Perpetual Adoration. Hundreds of people now come regularly to the Adoration Chapel at 140 Tulip Drive in Lewes to spend time in prayer with Jesus - day and night, throughout the week, from 6 a.m. Monday through 12 p.m. Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday - some assigned to specific hours, others as frequent or occasional visitors. The number of visits per month now averages well over 5,000, and the chapel ledger in which adorers record their thanksgiving for blessings and favors granted abounds with testimonies of prayers answered.
One does not have to be a member of St. Jude's Parish to come to the Adoration Chapel. All are welcome at any time. Anyone wishing to sign up for a specific hour of adoration, however, or who wants to come to the Eucharistic Chapel between the hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. should call 302-703-2419 to discuss arrangements.
