The Starboard to host reopening week celebration March 14-17

March 9, 2024

After over 50 years of closing during the winter seasons, capped by crazy opening and closing parties, these days the Starboard Restaurant stays open all year long. Locals can enjoy the frosty Dewey Beach vibes all year, Thursday through Sunday at the Shark Tank.

The Starboard’s reopening weekend will officially kick off the Dewey Beach tourist season and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day from Thursday to Sunday, March 14 to 17. Following the weekend, the Starboard will be open seven days a week through spring, ready to roll into this year’s sizzling summer season.

The Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce will host a happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, and Lost in Paris will take the stage from 7:30 to 11 p.m. The Starboard will roll out great drink specials on crushes and cold brews to get the party started.

“Our reopening weekend is the unofficial kickoff of the season, and it’s early enough that people are able to come out of their winter hibernation and see all their local friends before things really heat up for summer. While we stay open on weekends during the off-season, we still have fun celebrating St. Patrick’s and calling it our reopening weekend with a huge parking lot party,” said Steve “Monty” Montgomery.

The opening weekend and celebration event is also a huge fundraiser for the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company. The Starboard offers its coveted VIP cards in exchange for a donation to the fire company. VIP cardholders are allowed to get into the Starboard faster during the busy summer months.

For the weekend, the venue will double in size, and people will come into town clad in their Irish best to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day, Starboard-style. The parking lot will be enclosed by a heated tent featuring live entertainment. All of The Starboard’s DJs will be back on the calendar, with a mix of live music throughout the weekend as well. Kristen & The Noise will play at 3 p.m., Saturday, March 16. Bryen OBoyle of Mr. Greengenes will play at 1 p.m., Sunday, followed at 4 p.m. by some outstanding Irish Latin rock from La Unica.
