Starboard reopening party postponed

March 10, 2020

Editor’s note: The Starboard Restaurant in Dewey Beach has canceled opening weekend festivities, effective Friday, March 13, amidst public safety concerns about coronavirus. Starboard owner Steve “Monty” Montgomery sent out an email blast. “Am sorry, but after direct consultation from the Governor’s office and the Director of State Division of Health here in Delaware, we are canceling the remaining events planned for Starboard’s famous opening weekend.” For more information go to The Starboard Facebook page or thestarboard.com.

No matter the weather this St. Patrick’s Day weekend, it’s unofficially summertime, and the Starboard’s reopening party is the place to be Friday to Sunday, March 13 to 15.

The Starboard will have its entire parking lot covered with a massive tent, expanding out to handle the large crowds of revelers pouring in. Owner Steve “Monty” Montgomery and his team have loaded up on entertainment as regular full-time DJs spin music around the clock highlighted by a smattering of terrific live music with the Amish Outlaws, Kristen & The Noise, and Bryen O'Boyle of Mr. Greengenes/Just the Tip.

“The Starboard opening is pretty much our favorite weekend of the entire year,” said Montgomery. “The entire town of Dewey is filled to the brim with people all excited to be here and enjoy what Dewey has to offer.” Hotels will be filled, and flip-flops will come out because summertime is as much a state of mind as a season.

Montgomery’s goal is always to open the season on a high note and get the excitement going. He and the staff love that terrific feeling of bringing the town back to life after the long winter months. In fact, most other businesses in Dewey follow suit and open with the Starboard, which is fun for visitors and gives a great sense of town camaraderie.

The town will be a sea of green on Saturday as everyone comes to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The Starboard will be doing it right with Kristen & The Noise under the big tent at 3 p.m. Revelers looking to spot a leprechaun or drink a shamrock-colored beer need look no further.
