State offices closed Jan. 26; driving restrictions remain

All State of Delaware offices in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26, in the wake of increasingly treacherous and icy conditions across Delaware, and with forecasted temperatures not expected to rise above freezing for several days.  

“We’re not out of the woods yet with this winter storm, and ensuring people’s safety is critical,” said Gov. Matt Meyer in a press release. “Closing state offices will allow our DelDOT road crews and first responders to do their jobs more easily and help us get back to normal faster.” 

Driving restrictions and a State of Emergency remain in place in all three counties, until further notice. A Level 2 Driving Restriction remains in place for New Castle and Kent Counties. A Level 1 Driving Restriction remains in place for Sussex County.  

These state-mandated driving restrictions will remain in place until further notice to keep emergency responders and other essential motorists safe by minimizing nonessential travel during severe weather and perilous road conditions.   

Level 2 Driving Restriction for New Castle and Kent counties:No person may operate a motor vehicle on Delaware roadways when a Level 2 Driving Restriction has been activated, except for persons designated as essential personnel including operators of snow removal equipment employed, contracted by a public or private entity or designated persons already approved through the Delaware Emergency Management Agency’s State of Emergency Driving Waiver Program. 

Level 1 Driving Restriction for Sussex County: Any person operating a motor vehicle shall exercise extra caution in the operation of their motor vehicle. Motorists are encouraged not to operate a motor vehicle on the State’s roadways unless there is a significant safety, health, or business reason to do so.
