Success is not found on a balance sheet

February 24, 2023

We should all keep in mind that the Lewes Line was a new concept just last year. It often takes some time for something new to catch on.

I rode the Lewes Line often last summer. Thanks to those little buses, getting to Lewes was hassle-free.

Because it was so easy, I came into town more often for these reasons:

• A ride was just $1

• Swam at Lewes Beach

• Sat at the canal and watched the boats

• Joined a Lewes Historical Society walking tour

• Shopped

• Ate dinner or lunch at a local restaurant

• Toured the art galleries

• Picked up a sweet treat and coffee at the bakery

• No meters to feed

• No potential parking tickets

• App tracks where buses are and the ETA for each stop

• Courteous and helpful drivers.

The Gazette often has articles about the scarcity of parking in town. Each trip on the Lewes Line bus means one less car on the road. Each trip means one less person circling around looking for a place to park.

This summer, download the app and get on the bus. It’s easy, it’s cheap and it’s fun!

If Mr. Aldred thinks that the only measure of success for the Lewes Line is found on a balance sheet, he’s missing the point.
