Summer Spirituality Series to present The Immanuel Bach Consort June 11

June 6, 2015

As part of St. Peter's Episcopal Church Summer Spirituality Series, the Delaware Chapter of the American Choral Directors’ Association will present a concert by The Immanuel Bach Consort at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 11, in the church. St. Peter's  is at the corner of Second and Market streets in Lewes.

The Immanuel Bach Consort is a professional early music ensemble resident at Immanuel Church on the Green in New Castle. Founded by Gary Harney, IBC focuses on the church cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach, singing from editions prepared especially for the ensemble. Music on the June 11 program includes Christ lag in Todes Banden (Cantata #4) and Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele (Cantata #180). These are among the greatest works in the genre. Both will be accompanied by Baroque violin and harpsichord. Baroque violinist Sylvia Ahramjian will play Bach's Sonata in E Major for Violin and Obbligato Harpsichord (S. 1016), a stunning and challenging work. To complete the program, a chorale prelude by Bach, as well as 8-voice motets by Orlando Gibbons and Felix Mendelssohn will be presented.

The Summer Spirituality Series will be held at 7 p.m. every Thursday evening until Labor Day. All presentations are free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be taken at the door. Fellowship and ice creams cones in the parish hall will follow the concert. For more information, call 302-645-8479 or go to www.stpeterslewes.org.
