SUN Behavioral Health launches telehealth services
Residents struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues can receive a free telehealth consultation through SUN Behavioral Health.
SUN Behavioral Health Director of Business Development Erin Willis said the planned telehealth service was expedited in response to the COVID-19 national emergency.
Willis said anyone 13 and older experiencing anxiety, depression, mental health or substance use-related issues can go to sundelaware.com to complete a patient information form and request a virtual appointment, available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
A behavioral health specialist will contact patients at the appointment time; guardians of patients under 18 will be informed the minor has requested an appointment, Willis said. Patients must use a device with a camera for the video consultation.
Based on a patient’s assessment, Willis said, a customized treatment program is developed. Patients will receive inpatient care or will continue outpatient care through SUN’s telehealth outpatient program or by attending the hospital’s group outpatient program.
The state pays for inpatient mental health treatment, but not substance abuse treatment, Willis said; health insurance is accepted.
Patients who don’t need the level of care provided by SUN will be provided with community resources for additional counseling or medication management, Willis said.
