Sun Behavioral sets continuing education webinar March 30
Sun Behavioral Delaware will host a continuing education seminar from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 30. Featured speakers will be Alisha Saulsbury, LCSW-C, and Ann Simpers, LCPC, of Mid-Shore Behavioral Health. Sun will host this event virtually to provide convenient access for all.
Co-Occurring Disorders: How Trauma Plays a Role is the topic. Guest speakers Saulsbury and Simpers will discuss links between trauma and substance use disorders, commonly known as addictions. Combined, Saulsbury and Simpers have nearly 40 years of experience working with mental health and substance use disorders. They have also spent significant time working within the criminal justice system.
During the seminar, Saulsbury and Simpers will discuss their experience with TAMAR, a program on trauma, addiction, mental health and recovery, implemented for women in select Maryland detention centers.
Director of Business Development Erin Willis sees the issue of co-occurring substance use disorders as a critical one. “Substance use disorders do not discriminate. Everyone knows someone who has suffered from this disease,” said Willis. “We are committed to bringing awareness to crucial topics that can be controversial at times, but we’re here to try and help eliminate the stigma regarding mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders.”
Sun’s continuing education is provided free of charge to the community, but space is limited. To register, go to sundelaware.com and click on the News & Events tab.
