Sussex Academy girls’ lax defeats Indians 22-2

The Sussex Academy girls’ lacrosse team improved to 6-2 on the season with a 22-2 thrashing of Indian River April 19.

Senior Lily Manlove and freshman Shea Danahy each scored four goals to lead the offensive barrage by the Seahawks. Sophomore Shelby Manlove hit the twine for three goals, while Sanne Elling, Natalee Petty and Marley Rohe tallied two. Madison Naples, Stella Caldwell, Rilyn Lehman, Callie Short and Elizabeth Merrick each scored once.

Shelby Manlove was credited with three assists, while Elling, Petty and Rohe assisted on two scores.

Kylie Harris and Lauren Stoddard scored goals for Indian River.

Sophomore Morgan Leeper made two saves for the Seahawks, while IR keeper Chloe Megee stopped seven scoring attempts.

“Our goal for this game was to find more connections with each other on offense, and it’s a goal that we met,” said Seahawks coach Taylor Gibbs. “We had some setbacks before going into this game, and we knew that we had to take advantage of every opportunity on the field and bring the fun into our game.”
