Sussex Academy holds science honor society induction
Sussex Academy inducted 12 new members of the Science National Honor Society in a student-led school ceremony Dec. 3.
The chapter, which was founded in 2023, is open to juniors, seniors and exceptional sophomores who have demonstrated academic excellence, maintained a strong GPA and excelled in rigorous science coursework.
Leading the society are President Debora Williams, Vice President Priya Haldar, Secretary Gabrielle Yablonski, Treasurer Noah Benz and Service Hour Coordinator Abby Whitcomb. Biology teacher Jennifer Couch serves as advisor.
Science National Honor Society members collaborate annually with Sussex Academy Elementary to bring high school students into elementary school science classrooms to teach hands-on lessons.
Members also offer tutoring or study sessions to assist students preparing for AP science exams, invite guest speakers to the classroom and engage in service projects that promote scientific understanding.
Sussex Academy is a tuition-free, public charter school in Georgetown.
