Sussex Academy to present ‘Anne of Green Gables’ Feb. 9-10
Sussex Academy high school theater will present “Anne of Green Gables” at 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 9, and 2 and 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 10, at 21150 Airport Road, Georgetown.
“Anne of Green Gables,” adapted by Sylvia Ashby, is a refreshing, contemporary telling of the beloved classic story. Stern Marilla and her warm-hearted brother Matthew hoped to adopt a boy to work on their farm. But the orphanage sends young, freckled Anne by mistake, and their lives will never be the same. Her warmth and wit affect everyone around her – even, eventually, the cold Marilla. The story follows Anne through her rebellious years, her transformation into a young woman and her romantic pairing with Gilbert.
Continuing the tradition that started in 2016, this is Sussex Academy’s eighth student-directed production. The show is produced by seniors Aidan French and Nex Hagen, and junior Brianna Wittman.
The cast stars freshman Natalie Howard as Anne Shirley, a spunky, young orphan who's not afraid to speak her mind; junior Caroline Carlisle as Marilla Cuthbert, the stern, pious spinster who helps take care of Green Gables; and senior Nicholas Donati as Matthew Cuthbert, Marilla’s caring, soft-spoken brother. It also features sophomore Gigi Miranda as Rachel Lynde, junior Ava Huerta as Diana Barry, junior Sean Lisle as Gilbert Blythe, sophomore Skyla Edmondson as Ruby Gillis, freshman Lillian Baker as Josie Pye, sophomore Giovanni Porfido as Moody Macpherson, senior Sammy Pasmore as Charlie Sloan, senior Finn Sheridan as Miss Stacy and Mrs. Barry, sophomore Oliver Graves as Mr. Phillips, sophomore Leni Kuska as Mrs. Spencer, senior Amelia Kramer as Mrs. Blewitt, junior Alvaro Fernandez as the Station Master, and freshman Regan O’Connor as the Train Conductor.
Tickets cost $5 for students, $10 for adults and can be purchased at the door with cash or check only. Snacks and concessions will be sold at intermission.
