Sussex Academy teams take part in DE Turf play days

Lacrosse and soccer see first live action of spring season

A trio of Sussex Academy teams ended their first week of practice by playing host to a play day at DE Turf March 7 in Frederica.

Girls’ lacrosse played Saint Mark’s, Ursuline Academy and Delaware Military Academy. The other varsity teams were Newark, Polytech, Wilmington Charter, Caravel, J.M. Bennett (Md.), Newark Charter, Dover, Smyrna, Milford, Middletown, Indian River, Caesar Rodney and Mount Pleasant.

Boys’ lacrosse took on J.M. Bennett, Wilmington Christian and Odessa. The other participating teams were Parkside (Md.), Smyrna, Milford, Stephen Decatur (Md.), Tatnall School, Dover, Appoquinimink, Woodbridge, Polytech, Saint Mark’s, Middletown, Easton High (Md.) and Sussex Tech.

Girls’ soccer squared off against Brandywine, Sussex Tech and Delaware Military Academy. Laurel, Ursuline, Woodbridge, Delaware Valley Classical School and Delmar also battled on the turf pitches.

 

Aaron Mushrush joined the sports team in Summer 2023 to help cover the emerging youth athletics scene in the Cape Region. After lettering in soccer and lacrosse at Sussex Tech, he played lacrosse at Division III Eastern University in St. David's, PA. Aaron coached lacrosse at Sussex Tech in 2009 and 2011. Post-collegiately, Mush played in the Eastern Shore Summer Lacrosse League for Blue Bird Tavern and Saltwater Lacrosse. He competed in several tournaments for the Shamrocks Lacrosse Club, which blossomed into the Maryland Lacrosse League (MDLL). Aaron interned at the Coastal Point before becoming assistant director at WMDT-TV 47 ABC in 2017 and eventually assignment editor in 2018.
