Sussex CASA volunteers recognized at luncheon

December 31, 2017

The Friends of Sussex CASA held a recognition luncheon for their child advocate volunteers. The Court Appointed Special Advocate program advocates for children who are involved in Family Court proceedings and are often in foster care.

CASA volunteers advocate for the best interests of children involved in these situations by attending school meetings, visiting children in their placements and working with family members to complete a case plan in order for the children to return home safely. If reunification is not possible, CASAs strive to find alternative permanency options such as guardianship and adoption.

Sussex County currently has 75 volunteers who are advocating for more than 90 children. Without these amazing volunteers, the children of Sussex County would not reap the benefits of having a CASA while they are in state custody.

For more information on becoming a CASA volunteer, contact Melissa Palokas at Melissa.palokas@state.de.us or 302-752-3775.
