Sussex Conservation District offers free spring soil testing
May 13, 2017
The Sussex Conservation District is offering Pre-Sidedress Nitrogen Testing free of charge to Sussex County crop farmers. The PSNT is a spring soil test that aids in determining the nitrogen required to meet an expected crop yield. Corn fields that have received an application of animal manure or less than 40 lbs/acre of starter fertilizer are excellent candidates for PSNT.
Farmers should contact the district when their corn crop plants have reached a height of 4 to 6 inches. It is important to soil sample at this stage of corn growth in order to get an accurate recommendation of nitrogen needed prior to the plant increasing its uptake of nitrogen.
To schedule a test, call 302-856-3990, Ext. 3.
