Sussex conservation poster 2025 winners recognized

Sussex Conservation District recently recognized the winners of its annual conservation poster contest.

Posters were judged on the 2025 theme, Home is Where the Habitat Is.

SCD received 160 entries in five grade categories, including digital poster submissions.

First-place winners from Sussex County advanced to the state-level competition, with state winners moving on to nationals. An asterisk (*) denotes a state-level winner.

Grades K-1 winners are: first place, Scarlet Garson*, first grade, Sussex Academy; second place, Elijah Schrock, first grade, Sussex Academy; and third place: Sophia Cooper, first grade, Legacy Academy.

Grades 2-3 winners are: first place, Annabelle Lehman, second grade, John M. Clayton Elementary; second place, Braden Rion Starr, third grade, Milton Elementary; and third place: Josephine McMinn, third grade, Long Neck Elementary.

Grades 4-6 winners are: first place, Sofia Gladding*, sixth grade, Legacy Academy, second place: Isabelle Hein, fourth grade, Sussex Academy; and third place: Adelynn Horsey, fifth grade, Epworth Christian School.

Grades 7-9 winners, all Seaford Middle School eighth-graders, are: Mollie Stanley, first place; Hannah Sawyer, second place; and Cambria Shank, third place.

Grades 10-12 (digital) winners, all Sussex Technical High School 12th-graders, are: first place, Kylee Gill; second place, Asher Brittingham; and third place, Abigail Vanvorst.
