Sussex Consortium educators earn Hertrich Cash for Class grants
Three educators with the Sussex Consortium were recently recognized as 2025 Hertrich Cash for Class winners, receiving grant funding to support innovative projects that enhance student learning environments and experiences.
Amanda Eggers of Sussex Consortium on Sweetbriar Road was awarded $2,000, to be used to support the school’s outdoor courtyard project. The initiative will provide students with an engaging outdoor space that encourages learning, relaxation and connection to nature. Eggers’ project was recognized as a community favorite, earning her extra money toward the project.
At H.O. Brittingham Elementary School, two Sussex Consortium educators were recognized. Jenny Stephens received $1,000 to support the creation of raised garden beds at the school. This project will offer students hands-on learning opportunities related to nutrition, responsibility and environmental awareness. Alexis Gooch was also awarded $1,000, which will be used to create sensory bins for school buses, helping support students’ needs and promoting a calmer, more positive transportation experience.
“These awards directly impact our students in meaningful ways,” said Dr. Vivian Bush, Sussex Consortium principal. “From outdoor learning spaces to hands-on gardening and sensory supports, each project reflects our educators’ dedication to meeting students’ needs and creating enriching learning environments.
“The Hertrich Cash for Class awards highlight the power of community partnerships,” said Bush. “We are grateful for Hertrich’s continued support and proud of our educators for turning these opportunities into projects that will positively impact students every day.”
All of the projects were submitted to the contest in October for members of the community to review and cast their votes in support.
