The following letter was sent to Sussex County Council with a copy provided to the Cape Gazette for publication.
This is the sworn vow a newly elected Sussex Council Representative declares: “I, __________, do proudly swear to carry out the responsibilities of the office of Sussex County Council (man or woman), to the best of my ability, freely acknowledging that the powers of this office flow from the people I am privileged to represent. I further swear always, to place the public interests above any special or personal interests and to respect the right of future generations to share the rich, historic and natural heritage of Delaware. In doing so, I will always uphold and defend the constitutions of my country and my state, so help me god.”
Surely you have followed the overwhelming Sussex County residents’ outcry regarding the threading Sussex County overdevelopment. Concerned protesters’ ages range from 17 years to 80 in Georgetown speak for multitudes of citizens.
The planning & zoning commission hearings’ resident speakers ring the outcry of “Enough is enough.” Speakers research the facts, present history and photographs, and identify the application provision mishaps. The community witnesses the flooding, traffic, deforestation, pollution, animal cruelty daily. Are you listening? Can you see this? Planning & zoning commissioners listened and denied the Coral Lakes application request, rightfully so. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was the right one. Good leaders recognize this. The grateful community recognizes this.
Your awesome responsibility and power truly flow from the people. Please uphold your sworn allegiance to respect the people you have the privilege to represent above special interests, and the respect the right of future generations to share the rich, historical and natural heritage of Delaware.
Deny the Coral Lakes development appeal because the developer’s application hits all the witnessed devastating negatives to our Sussex community and our future. It is the right thing to do.
