Sussex County Bible Church gives Boxes of Blessing

May 4, 2020

Sussex County Bible Church congregants prepared 100 boxes of food to give away April 25 at the American Legion Post 28. The entire process took about 10 days.

One anonymous congregant procured and donated the 100 frozen chickens, while others purchased and donated cans of vegetables, mashed potato packages, peanut butter and jelly, and a loaf of bread. Included in the package are a handwritten note, informational handouts and a Bible.

“This box outreach ministry is based on the Bible story of Jesus feeding 5,000 people. We are using this opportunity to meet not only the physical needs of our community, but also the spiritual needs of people. This is a time to reevaluate life and see what is important,” the Rev. Duane Smith said.

The church’s 250 congregants divided tasks. Teens put the boxes together. Those who could shop purchased items; those in lockdown for their safety wrote notes. Others packed boxes, and some worked at the distribution point.
