Sussex County Science Fair winners announced

The Sussex County Science Fair was held March 5.

The fair offers an opportunity for middle and high school students to showcase their individual science or engineering research. It is open to all students in public, private or home schools.

This year’s winners at the middle school level were: Jack Thomas, first place, for his project The Effect of Defensive Shifts on Offensive Production; and Grace Thomas, second place, for her project Eelgrass vs. Nitrogen Pollution! Who Will Win? Both students attend Sussex Academy.

Winners at the high school level were: Noah Benz, first place, for his project How Much Does Nitrogen Runoff Affect Algae Growth?; and Katya Geyer, second place, for her project Electrolyte the Right Way. Both students attend Sussex Academy.

A team comprising Morgan Lowe and Ariana Zavala-Oliveros took third place with their project Sweet Beats. They attend Sussex Tech.

The winner of the special award from Delaware Tech is Jack Thomas. Winner of the Bio-Genius Award from the Delaware Biotechnology Institute is Noah Benz.
