Sussex County Habitat for Humanity dedicated a new home in Laurel Nov. 19, celebrating another milestone in its ongoing mission to expand access to safe, affordable homes and secure homeownership across Sussex County.

The dedication was attended by Habitat staff, friends and family of the new homeowner, and representatives of the Laurel town government, all gathering in support of a family beginning a new chapter.

The new homeowner expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to own her own home and reflected on what this moment means for her family’s future. Her remarks highlighted the transformative power of stability, security and the strong community partnerships that make Habitat’s work possible.

This dedication marks the latest chapter in Sussex Habitat’s long-standing work in Laurel. Over the past decade, SCHFH has partnered with local government, community organizations, and volunteers to build and rehabilitate multiple homes throughout the town, strengthening neighborhoods and expanding affordable housing opportunities for families who live and work in the region.

“Our work in Laurel over the years represents exactly what Habitat stands for – collaboration, perseverance and a shared belief that every family deserves the chance to build a stable future,” said Kevin Gilmore, Sussex Habitat CEO. “We are grateful for the ongoing support of Laurel’s leadership and community members who help make these moments possible.”

The event marks marks the 203rd home built and sold by Sussex County Habitat for Humanity.
