Sussex students explore science together

On March 29, the La Casita After-School Homework Program hosted its very first science fair, titled “Exploring Science Together.”  There was 15 hands-on science stations for students to explore natural sciences, technology, engineering and more.  More than 90 students from La Casita and the Delaware Prevention Network After-School Program participated at the First State Community Action Agency offices in Georgetown.

Students learned how to conduct water quality tests, make slime, learn about the powers of fruit, had an encounter with robotics, and even made their own catapults as they visited different stations during the morning.

A major purpose of this event is to help spark student interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Events like this one may lead to increased interest in studying sciences and even pursuing careers in STEM. This event is sponsored by Familias Unidas de La Casita, First State Community Action Agency, Girl Scouts of America, Abbott’s Mill Nature Center in Milford, CAD Imports, 4-H and other community businesses.
