Sussex Tech band invited to New Year's Day Parade in London

The Sussex Technical High School Raven Nation Marching Band received an invitation from The Right Worshipful The Lord Mayor of Westminster Councillor Angela Harvey, to participate in the London New Year's Day Parade.

There are only 14 other performing groups from the United States invited to the parade each year. The lord mayor arrived at the school gymnasium full of students behind the procession of the school's drum cadence along with school and elected officials.

The New Year's Day Parade features over 8,000 participants and over 750,000 people on the streets watch the parade. Its TV audience is estimated to be 300 million people all over the world. Participation is by invitation only. Being invited by the lord mayor is an honor.

The band and its boosters will be responsible for raising a substantial amount of funds to get the band to England. The band, while in England, will also be offered educational performance tours as part of their participation in the parade and festivals.
